Outdoor Trips

Grab a paddle and get ready for an adventure down the Lower South Fork American River also known as “The Gorge”! Don’t let names like Satan's Cesspool and Hospital Bar scare you. This section of river is great for beginners, families, and anyone looking for some whitewater fun in the California sun! A typical day through the gorge is approximately 4 hours on the water beginning with introductory class II rapids before building to the bigger class III rapids down river. Come explore this world-class river and see why this is the most commercially rafted river in California.

No previous experience is necessary. Trip meets mid-morning at Camp Lotus, Coloma. Trip includes guides, shuttle, and all rafting equipment. Minimum age is 9.

Water flows in the South Fork American River result from releases from hydroelectric facilities located upstream. Such water releases are not subject to the control of El Dorado County or commercial rafting companies operating under permits from the County of El Dorado.
