Outdoor Trips

Grab a paddle and get ready for an adventure down the Upper South Fork of the American River, also known as “Chili Bar”! Don’t let names like Meat Grinder, Triple Threat, and Trouble Maker scare you. This section of the river is great for beginners, families, and anyone looking for some whitewater fun in the California sun! A typical day through the Chili Bar section is approximately 4 hours on the water and requires attentive listening and engaged paddling to navigate some of the harder class III rapids early in the day. End the day on the laidback class II section through the historic gold rush town of Coloma, CA. Come explore this world-class river and see why this is the most commercially rafted river in California.
No previous experience is necessary.
Trip meets mid-morning at Camp Lotus, Coloma. Trip includes guides, shuttle, and all rafting equipment. Minimum age is 9.

Water flows in the South Fork American River result from releases from hydroelectric facilities located upstream. Such water releases are not subject to the control of El Dorado County or commercial rafting companies operating under permits from the County of El Dorado.
